Chapter History
Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service
The Conway Alumnae Chapter was chartered in June, 1976 under the leadership of Regional Director Louise K. Riddick and the Florence Alumnae Chapter. There were seven initiated Deltas – Andean Campbell, Sylvia Conwell (ΩΩ), Thomasina Miller McCloud (ΩΩ), Hilda Hortense McKiever (ΩΩ), Lenora Sadler, Bernice Gore Sanders, and Ruth Ward Shields, along with the Florence Alumnae Chapter initiated Deltas – Willa DeWitt, Betty Dowling (ΩΩ), and Sandra Jones forming the Conway Alumnae Chapter. These visionary leaders helped to lay a solid foundation which enables our Chapter to continue Delta’s legacy of Scholarship, Sisterhood, and Service.
The Conway Alumnae Chapter serves communities of Horry County in and around the areas of Aynor, Conway, Loris, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, and Surfside Beach. We proudly celebrated 40 years of our rich legacy of servant leadership by honoring our Charter Members and Past Presidents at our 40th Anniversary Gala in 2016. Our Chapter has grown under the distinct leadership of our Past Presidents Lenora Sadler (1976-1978;1984-1990), Bernice Gore Sanders (1978-1980), Willa DeWitt (1980-1984), Priscilla Robinson Spain (1990-1994), Brewsena M. Jackson (1994-1998), Davina Smalls Johnson (1998-2000), Marie G. Floyd (2000-2004), Carlita Goff (2004-2008), Cheria Livingston (2008-2012), Alice Peters (2012-2016), and Janet Lawrence-Patten (2016-2020). We anticipate continued growth and development under the leadership of our President Cenita Gerald.
The Conway Alumnae Chapter has a long legacy of providing an array of public service initiatives that are aligned with the needs of the communities that we serve based on Delta’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust. The chapter’s program initiatives are supported by our communities, local churches, organizations, businesses, and the Horry County School District. The chapter presently has close to 60 members serving all areas of Horry County.
